The cricket season is still a way off with the first playing day scheduled for 2 November. However, the days are getting longer, and some may be starting to get the summer cricket gear out again. Prior to season start, Wellington Collegians Junior Cricket Club will be offering its Spring Training programme to all Collegians junior hard ball cricketers.
WCJCC are pleased to be able to offer all our hard-ball players the opportunity to learn new skills and to prepare for the next season. Our aim is to further improve on what we have delivered in previous years. We have worked to ensure we provide a programme that enables all cricketers who take part to start the new season with confidence, new skills and development of existing ones.
The programme will be led again by Liam (or Casper) Jensen (ECB Level 2 qualified coach) who many of you will remember from Nursery Grade. The club is delighted to also have the services of former Black Caps Hamish Bennett, Grant Elliot, & Hamish Marshall for a few sessions.
Spring Training is a great way to dust off the cobwebs, catch up with team mates and get quality cricket coaching, placing you on the front foot for the start of the season.
WCJCC prides itself on being one of the few clubs in Wellington to offer this level of training before the start of the season. If you are playing hard-ball cricket for the first time (i.e. you were a Year 4 cricketer last season) this training is especially invaluable, as you get the experience of trying on the hard-ball gear and facing up to a real cricket ball. Registrations for spring training close on 8 September - see below for registration/payment details.
The club encourages coach and parent participation. This will help them to gain new ideas for drills at practice and to get to know their players before the start of the season. Coaches may wish to encourage their players to attend a particular session so that they can train together. However, this will be done on a first come first served basis while there are spots available.
Cricket gear is provided by the club although BYOB (bring your own box).
Spaces are limited, so enrol soon.
The pre-season training offers Saturday or Sunday times (see below) and runs for 5 sessions over 6 weeks, starting 14/15 September to 19/20 October. Excluding 5 & 6 October, the middle weekend of the school holidays. Spring training will be held at the Basin Reserve indoor nets.
