Junior Club News

We are already looking forward to the 2020/21 junior cricket season.

Registrations are for Grades 2-8 are now closed, but registrations remain open for Grade 1 (Nursery) and the Girls Only Sunday League. You can register at https://registrations.crichq.com/register/251376.

Nursey grade will be held at 8.30AM Saturday mornings at Anderson Park, starting 14 November. It is an introduction to cricket for Year 1s where children and parents will be introduced to the core skills of the game. We have secured former Collegians Junior chair Grant Richardson as well as our Senior Men’s pro Akash Sivan to run the sessions. They will be fast, furious, and fun with additional guest skill speci(c coaches and takeaway kit.

The Girls Only Sunday League is soft-ball cricket for Years 5-8. This is a great introduction to cricket with 7 games over the season commencing on 22 November.

For those registered in Grades 2-8, coaches sides have already been announced. You can find the team practice details here.

The first day of junior cricket for the season will be Saturday 14 November 2020 and the last day will be Sunday 28 March 2021. The last weekend for 2020 will be 19/20 December and the first weekend for 2021 will be 23/24 January.

This year we are arranging a "gear swap" for hardball cricketers. This is an opportunity for parents to pass on gear that is too small or no longer needed but still in reasonable condition. We will build this into a ‘toy library’-like set up where we will lend out and in turn receive back kit for the season. We expect that by the time most Collegians players reach hardball they will own at least most of their personal kit, but us to fill the gaps. It should also enable us to reduce the size of the team bag by limiting it to team gear (e.g., stumps, boundary flags and a minimum amount of kit – largely for the wicket keepers). If we end up with a surplus, we will work together with other Wellington clubs to donate it to places where it will have the greatest impact.

We have Collegians hoodies available to purchase this year - both for players and their parents! These are black with gold under the arms and of a similar style to the Collegians senior club Men’s and Women’s version. There is a space on the back for the person's name (either first, second or nickname at your discretion). You can order these through the registration process on CricHQ, but there are more details here.

At this stage we are anticipating the Hawke's Bay cricket camps will go ahead as normal. The dates for 2020/21 and the latest details are here: https://www.facebook.com/hbcricketcamps

We are looking forward to another great season of cricket at Collegians!
